Making the Bible relevant

The Christian Studies Major strives to help students who wish to pursue careers as church leaders, cross-cultural missionaries, youth and children’s ministry leaders. Training is given with a broad range of skills and abilities to comprehend, analyse and integrate primary and secondary sources of biblical, theological, historical, social and ethical thought to deepen their relationship with Christ.

Bachelor of Ministry

Christian Studies major at the Bachelor level provides students with a basic understanding of the historical, social, religious and political contexts of the development and application of Christian thought and missions, with special emphasis on the Indian context.

Introduction to Biblical Greek

The foundations of Koine Greek – grammar, syntax and vocabulary – to provide students with necessary skills to read and understand the original meaning of the New Testament texts.

Church and Community Development

An overview of the purpose and plan of God for the Church as found in the Bible. Special attention is given to learning the principles of natural church growth and its impact on community development.

Mission in a Multi-religious Context

An introduction to biblical, theological, and pragmatic perspectives of missions in a multi-religious context.

Advanced Preaching

Expository aspect of the preaching will be looked at depth with scheduled preaching opportunities at different junctures with recording and reviewing to develop excellence in the art of preaching.

Master of Ministry

Christian Studies major at the Master level provides students with an advanced knowledge of Christian theology, history, missions, leadership, and discipleship, geared towards transforming communities.

Introduction to Biblical Greek

The foundations of Koine Greek – grammar, syntax and vocabulary – to provide students with necessary skills to read and understand the original meaning of the New Testament texts.

Church and Social System

An overview of the origins, history, and the theological basis for the caste system in India. It also covers the biblical foundations for equality of all people, and the history of the relationship between Christianity and caste system in India. Students will also be introduced to some of the key challenges the Church encounters in the process.

Christian Mission in a Pluralistic Society

Students will understand the biblical, theological and practical perspective of mission in a pluralistic and multi-religious context such as India. Students will briefly explore, compare and analyse major religions in India such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam.

Contextual Homiletics

An advanced level preaching course to give understanding to students about preparation and delivery of sermons in different contexts. Students will be trained to understand the audience and the circumstances in which they are preaching for effective communication.

Major Internship

A guided practicum, carefully assigned, structured and monitored to provide the most appropriate and valuable experience for each student in their major specialization.
